Simon Rattle, conductor

Christian Gerhaher, baritone

Stuart Skelton, tenor

Mahler referred to his “Song of the Earth” as “a symphony in songs.” Simon Rattle and the London Symphony Orchestra illuminate the fleeting nature of human life as depicted in this extraordinary song cycle. “Vulnerable and intense” (New York Times), baritone Christian Gerhaher sings the work’s folk texts adapted from Tang Dynasty poetry.

“The most moving singer in the world.” Telegraph, U.K. on Christian Gerhaher
